We are very proud that Dr. Sims is a part of our dental practice. With decades of experience he emphasizes image guided implant reconstruction and has completed hundreds of full arch, complex cases including many with severely atrophic jaws. He is a consultant to general dentists, oral surgeons, and periodontists throughout the Southeast and has consulted on the restoration of severely atrophic jaws using LeFort osteotomy downgrafts with growth factors and microvascular reconstructions with fibula transplants. All of these cases have required specialized facial analysis with surgical guide fabrication to direct the surgical team and accurately prepare the foundation for the subsequent reconstruction. Additionally, he has managed the restoration of patients with genetic manifestations (including cleft palates and dwarfism), trauma and tumor site reconstruction patients and special needs patients requiring extensive restoration.
Dr. Sims is a speaker and has published on complex full arch, severely atrophic jaw restorations. Most recently, he was a featured presenter at the Jack Kent Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation Pearls III conference co-sponsored by the Louisiana State University Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Alumni Association in April, 2014 and was recognized for the outstanding table clinic presentation (featuring full arch zirconia restorations) at the 2013 Hinman Dental Meeting. He will be presenting two sessions at the March 2015 Hinman Dental Meeting.
He is an inventor of prosthetic solutions and a proponent of integrative dentistry.
Dr. Sims also maintains affiliations with several professional organizations, including the American College of Prosthodontists, the American College of Prosthodontists, Georgia Section (where he has served as President, Secretary/Treasurer, Executive Committee Member and Education Director for Statewide meetings), the Academy of Osseointegration, and the American Dental Association. As president of the Georgia Section of the American College of Prosthodontists, Dr. Sims organized the first state wide meeting dedicated to image assisted implant therapies and participated in the introduction of esthetic full arch zirconia restorations to the Atlanta dental community.
Dr. Sims received his DDS degree from the Emory University School of Dentistry in 1975 where he was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He completed his specialization in Prosthodontics at the Emory University School of Postgraduate Dentistry in 1981. He served as Clinical Instructor of Dental Anatomy and Clinical Instructor of Prosthodontics
Dr. Sims is married to Sue and they have three daughters: Emy, Logan and Blair. He is an avid gardener, reader, church member and, over the past two years, has enjoyed participating in design and installation of a new soccer field as part of community outreach.
